Ontario is reporting 1,868 new cases of COVID-19 over the last two days, with 904 cases reported Tuesday and 964 on Monday.

The case and death counts weren’t updated on Monday due to the Family Day holiday.

Another 13 people died from the virus in the province on Monday, bringing the total to 6,719. A number was not provided for Sunday.

Most of new infections reported for Tuesday are in Toronto (320), followed by Peel Region (154), and York Region (118).

Currently, 742 people are being treated in hospital with 292 of those patients in intensive care.

The province said nearly 30,400 tests were completed on Sunday and more than 27,000 people were tested on Monday.

According to provincial data, 480,377 doses of the vaccine have been administered overall.

So far, 319 COVID-19 variants have been recorded so far with 309 of those being the UK variant.

In-person classes were to resume Tuesday at schools in the COVID-19 hotspots of Toronto, Peel Region and York Region; however, boards in two regions closed schools due to the snowstorm.

The Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, York District School Board and York Catholic District School Board cancelled school buses and closed schools because of the weather. However, virtual learning will continue.

The Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School board cancelled school buses but the schools will be open.

A stay-at-home order was also lifted for 27 Ontario public health units on Monday. The units will now return to the province’s COVID-19 colour-coded tiered ranking system used prior to a provincewide lockdown which began on Boxing Day.

Toronto, Peel Region, York Region and North Bay Parry Sound are set to remain under the stay-at-home order until at least Feb. 22.
