Many Canadians have taken to social media to express their frustrations with Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, many demanding she resign. Dr. Theresa Tam is currently leading Canada’s Federal COVID response, working out of the Prime Minister’s office.
Dr. Tam has given conflicting statements on COVID. Back in January 2020, Tam stated, “there is no clear evidence that this virus is spread easily from person to person. The risk to Canadians remains low.”
Dr. Tam originally told people not to wear masks, then went back on it, and advised people to wear them. She even went as far as telling people to wear masks during sex. These confusing and conflicting messages have been cited as reasons for the public’s distrust against the Health Officer.
There have been previous calls for Dr Tam to be fired or to resign. In April of 2020, Rebel News launched a petition to have Dr. Tam fired. Unfortunately, the petition didn’t lead to her removal or resignation, but it succeeded in generating significant public attention to Tam’s missteps.
Toronto 99 launched a poll to see how its readers feel about Dr. Tam. An overwhelming majority of people voted to have Tam fired.
