U.S. refiners & petrochemical manufacturers hope for quick tariff resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson issued the following statement addressing the announced tariffs being levied this week on Canada and Mexico:

American refiners depend on crude oil from Canada and Mexico to produce the affordable, reliable fuels consumers count on every day. Some regions in our country also rely on Canadian refined products, like gasoline, diesel and heating oil.

We are hopeful a resolution can be quickly reached with our North American neighbors so that crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals are removed from the tariff schedule before consumers feel the impact.”

The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) is the leading trade association representing the makers of the fuels that keep us moving, the petrochemicals that are essential building blocks for modern life, and the midstream companies that get our feedstocks and products where they need to go.
